Sugar Bear Newfoundlands

We are a small breeder of "Quality" black and landseer Newfoundland puppies.  We breed at least one litter of pups per year. Our puppies are lovingly raised in our home with children. 

WE BREED NO OTHER BREEDS OTHER THAN NEWFOUNDLANDS! 

 We breed only from showable breeding stock with champion bloodlines. We sometimes have semen shipped in from Champion studs within the USA.

OFA health clearances are very important in our breeding program & good health & longevity is very important when selecting a breeder. We certify our dogs for hips, elbows, heart, patellas, and cystinuria.  

Ask your breeder if they do cystinuria testing (a DNA test for kidney disease) If a puppy gets cystinuria it can mean death . 

  Do your research in advance & be willing to wait for the right puppy. Many potential puppy buyers get VERY anxious for the first available pup because it is perhaps CHEAPER. 

Consider the following facts and/or questions you might want to ask before purchasing a puppy:

- Perhaps the puppy is cheaper because it does not come from a reputable breeder.

- Perhaps the breeder can sell for less because they get (2) litters from a female per year verses  reputable breeders (non-puppy mill breeders) in almost all cases breed  the female (1) time per year .

- Does the puppy comes from health cleared  parents

- Do the breeders raise many litters per year? (possibly a puppy mill)

- Do they raise numerous breeds?

- Can you visit their facilities?  

- Ask to see OFA hip, elbow, heart, and cystinuria clearances whether it be in paper form  or in the form of the OFA database- With this you will need the full registered name of the sire and dam. Perhaps you might want to do a vertical pedigree to see if there are health clearances on the parents, grandparents, and great grand parents.

We select the BEST newfies that are a good representation of the Newfoundland breed and doing  OFA health clearances is a MUST before any  female is bred.  The puppies are delivered by me and hand raised by myself and our children.

Looking for the BEST loving homes is a must when a litter is bred here at SUGAR BEAR NEWFOUNDANDS. It is not about who has the money to give you for the pup .............it is looking for suitable permanent loving homes for all of our puppies.  We screen all potential puppy buyers ! As a breeder you owe it to the puppy that you bring into this world. 

 Because we are care about our puppies very much.............we assist in the delivery of the puppies & even camp out or sleep in the whelping area making sure that NO puppies get laid on. The puppies are handled daily & loved by our children. The puppies go on rides to the vet. There is a limit to how much exposure that you allow for puppies until they have been fully vaccinated...........REST assured your puppy is very socialized & confident.

We sell all pets with Limited Registration on spay/neuter contracts. Sugar Bear only sells show/breed puppies to reputable breeders or non-puppy millers. About 99 % of all puppies produced by Sugar Bear go to PET homes on Limited Registration .   

 The puppies receive vaccinations at six weeks & at nine weeks. The puppies are vet checked before leaving to go to their new homes.  The puppies come with a one year guarantee on hips and SAS hearts & the pet owner has 72 hours to have the puppy's health confirmed by the vet of their choice at the pet owners expense.

Until the puppies receive their first set of vaccination shots at six weeks we do not allow visitors. We do post photo updates on the puppies at birth, 3 weeks, & at 6 weeks of age.

While we would love to meet you in person when you pick up your puppy......sometimes this is not always possible. Shipping is available at additional cost. We often use Northwest or Delta airlines and the puppies do quite well. Buyer pays the cost of COD shipping & crate cost in addition to the purchase of the puppy. We can only ship within the USA. We are 45 minutes away from the Louisville, KY Bowman Field Airport & we are about 20 minutes away from the private landing strip in Sellerburg, IN.

We have been breeding quality black and landseer puppies since 1985. We are a small kennel overlooking Oak Knobs in Underwood, IN.  We strive to breed showable quality newfoundlands with a gentle temperament & bloodlines to be winners.
